Three Layered Dip
Even a few years into helping others as a psychic medium, I am still taken aback by not just the beauty of what I do, but the wonder of it all. When I stand between the Living and the Dead, acting as a conduit between the two, I experience all the emotions you would expect: love, wonder, grief, so many more. I discover many wondrous revelations about Spirit, the world they live in, and how they carry on. And if there’s one thing I’ve discovered over and over again, it’s this:
Our Spirits love food.
In Spirit form our deceased love the foods they loved in life, maybe even more so. It’s the drinks, the smokes, the foods they love and remember fondly. As friends and family of those who have gone before us, we also most likely remember our loved ones by the foods and drinks they enjoyed in life. Maybe it was Uncle Bud’s love for Diet Pepsi, maybe it was Aunt Myrtle’s love for chocolate cake...yet whatever it is, they’ll speak up about it during a session with me!
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had some incredible experiences around food and I want to share them with you. Not only were these spirits sharing their love of food, bringing up their favorite foods in life, but they used that love of food to share love and wisdom that would help their loved ones still here, still in the breathing world.
When I work with the Living and the Dead, one of the terms I use a lot is “umbrella.” In my mind’s eye, we have guardian spirits (ancestors, friends, pets, and even stranger things) that hover over our heads like rays of different colored light. Just like umbrellas keep inclement weather from falling on our heads, these spirits don’t want pain or misfortune to befall us. They stay with us, lend us their strength and wisdom. When I connect with someone in a session, my connection to these guardian umbrellas is almost instant.
At the moment when I connect to these guardian spirits, I feel so much, so quickly. A couple of weeks ago, I shared a session with a woman. As soon as I sat with her, I could feel her spirits - who they were, what they were like, and how many of them there were. The first part of their spirit I’ll feel is their gender, then I’ll feel their personality. For this particular woman, I felt three very distinctive spirits “over” this woman and the first message they brought through for my client was that she was a conduit.
There were three spirit women around her and over here and they were very adamant that they appreciated how this woman, still in this world and living and breathing, was a living “umbrella” for three younger women. It was a strange sensation! It was very much like “We’re here, the three of us. We see you, we’re here with you at all times. We love how you care for three younger women ‘below’ you. You’re doing good work.”
I simplified the message here, yet all of that was felt by me in an instant. I can’t describe how well enough how spirits communicate with me, yet all of that and more was there instantly. I knew it all at that moment as sure as I knew the sun was over my head at that moment. And these lovely three women, these three women who were close in life and even closer in death, wanted to share more, especially this woman’s grandmother.
And oddly enough, she used her love of food to express herself.
This woman’s grandmother was very strong during this particular reading, sharing many memories. During the reading, she kept sharing one certain image: a tub of butter! As odd as it may sound, and for you to really “see” what I was seeing, imagine a commercial for a butter or margarine product. Know how those tubs of butter products look like they’re many layers of golden warmness layered upon one another? I kept seeing the image of yellow butter and I kept feeling that joy in how a butterknife would slide through that, scooping it up to place on a warm muffin. And that image, as powerful as it was, was good. It was wholesomeness and approval. It was the biggest thumbs up she could give me at that moment.
And as it would happen, this woman did enjoy her buttery products in her fridge, always having a tub of butter substitute that she loved so much and put on a lot of food. She loved it in life and it was her way of saying “See, it’s me! Also, here’s my thumbs up!”
This image, this food this grandmother was known for, was very important. This not only proved to the woman I was sitting with that her spirits were around her but gave them all a useful tool and symbol with which to communicate. This was important, as the grandmother had more to share with her granddaughter. The woman sitting across from me did indeed have three young women in her life, women she supported and guided in her own way.
And her grandmother wanted her to know this met her approval and appreciation. There was a significant message here: the woman who sat with me was an explorer of alternative spiritualities, visiting people like me, understanding Reiki & energy healing, exploring and learning about topics that would, years ago, be seen as witchcraft by those who held conservatively religious beliefs.... as these three women did in life.
This grandmother, these three spirits around this woman, gave her a very explicit thumbs up around her “witchy” ways, very much approving how their living family member was bringing balance into the lives of those three young women. And not only did they share this feeling of approval, but they also shared it as that image of warm, loving, buttery goodness!
Another recent reading was all about food as well. Another woman, looking to connect with her ancestors and gain clarity through their wisdom, came to me for a session. Just like the other session I had about a week prior, this connection to her companion spirits was instant. Not only did I feel this woman’s grandmother and her strong personality, but her grandmother also gave me an image that this woman would recognize immediately. I just didn’t know it then, and when I bring images and messages to people, I do so with the faith that the Living will know what the Deceased is talking about. 99.9% of the time, this is the case. And this grandmother wanted to show her granddaughter that she was there and she did so with one image of one particular food item:
Three Layered Dip.
Now, far as I can tell, there are a million different versions of this dip. Some folks might call it Nacho Dip, but I think we’ve all probably had this party favorite. Salsa, sour cream, and shredded cheese are the three staple layers, though you might see this with ground beef, peppers, or diced tomatoes. And this was so important to this woman, her grandmother, and her family as this Three Layered Dip was something this woman was known for and it was a family staple at all get-togethers. If there was a specific food that would identify this grandmother and her love for her family, it was this dip.
Not only did this woman’s grandmother show up, but she also loved that I called them “umbrellas’ and she took my analogy a step further. THis grandmother told me to tell her granddaughter that she was there, along with two other spirits who were guarding her. The grandmother was sure to make sure I told her that she was the salsa layer in that dip - she was certainly a spicy firecracker! She even went so far to talk about the other two layers in that dip, the other two spirits, and she told her granddaughter that she was the layer of salsa between the sour cream and the cheese - the two spirits who represented the cheese and sour cream didn’t like each other in life, and they didn’t like each other in death. Gram was not only the salsa layer in this three-layer dip, she was the layer between those two spirits who didn’t like each other.
As odd as all this sounds, it’s real. It happened. It happens and I’m excited that it will continue to happen - that I can be that connection between the Living and the Dead. I can say it happened because I had people share in this experience with me. I share these experiences with you so you know that your spirits are likely to communicate in the most extraordinary and unusual ways.
And sometimes, when those unusual cravings come upon you to enjoy that which your loved ones did while alive…
You’ll know why.
